Mpox in Ayos: Understanding, Monitoring, and Preventing
From 25 to 29 August 2025, an in-depth Mpox investigation mission was conducted in the Ayos Health District, Centre Region, following the confirmation of three cases. Coordinated by the National Programme for the Prevention and Control of Emerging and Re-emerging Zoonoses (PNPLZER), with the support of multisectoral teams, the mission aimed to identify the source of infection and strengthen the local public health response.

The confirmation of Mpox cases in the Ayos Health District prompted the deployment of a rapid field investigation to better understand the epidemiological situation. The mission sought to identify potential sources of infection, assess the effectiveness of the surveillance system, and reinforce coordination among health, veterinary, environmental, and community stakeholders in line with the One Health approach.

The mission focused on active case finding, evaluation of the disease surveillance system, community investigations, and risk communication activities targeting vulnerable populations. Biological samples were collected from suspected cases, contacts, and rodents. The findings highlighted the persistence of high-risk community practices and underscored the critical importance of early case reporting, community awareness, and sustained preventive measures to limit the spread of Mpox.
